LEADERSHIP

Leadership is based on the ability of an individual to get one or more people together and let them function effectively as a team, being motivated to perform activities in order to achieve set objectives.

A core characteristic of leadership is that it can be described as a process.  Leadership is a continuous action – in other words, leadership is about the leader’s general behaviour – and not a once-off activity.

Managers must take responsibility to act as leaders in the organisation by communicating to and motivating employees to behave in an expected manner in order to achieve the set objectives.  To get employees to behave in an expected manner will be influenced greatly by the example set by the leader.  This example needs to be more than a general example – it must be inspiring.  Leadership also involves creating a vision of the organizations future as well as a strategy to achieve the vision for the followers/employees.  Leadership involves influencing others to strive to achieve one or more goals.

MANAGEMENT

Management is the process of completing tasks and activities efficiently and effectively with and through individuals and teams.

Management functions:

Planning;
Organising;
Management of staff;
Directing;
Coordinating;
Reporting;
Budgeting.

Roles of a manager:

Interpersonal role

Figurehead;
Coach;
Mentor;
Leader

Informational role

Monitoring;
Information management.


Decisional role

Entrepreneur;

On-the-spot problem-solving;
Management of resources;
Negotiation.

This is a two-day programme which can be run as an in-house course for organisations or you may attend our public course which is run once a month.
